Neal Mohan is the new YouTube CEO, Know all about him.

YouTube Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Susan Wojcicki is stepping down, and Indian-American Neal Mohan is set to take over as the streaming company’s new CEO. Mohan will join a growing list of Indian-origin CEOs leading US-based global conglomerates, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.

Wojcicki stated in a note, “Today, after nearly 25 years here, I’ve decided to step down from my role as the head of YouTube” (since 2014). The time is right for me, and I’m confident in my ability to do so because YouTube has an incredible leadership team in place.”

Mohan is a Stanford electrical engineering graduate who joined Google in 2007 as part of the DoubleClick acquisition. He was appointed Chief Product Officer in 2015 and has been responsible for the development of YouTube Shorts and Music.

Wojcicki stated in her note that when she joined YouTube as CEO in 2014, one of her first priorities was to bring in an incredible leadership team. “One of those leaders was Neal Mohan, who will be the SVP and new head of YouTube,” she explained.

Mohan joined Google in 2007 and rose through the ranks to become SVP of Display and Video Ads. Since becoming chief product officer in 2015, he has built a world-class product and UX team and been instrumental in the launch of some of the company’s most important products, including YouTube TV, YouTube Music, Premium, and Shorts. He was also the team leader for Trust and Safety.

He has a great understanding of our company, our workers, our creative and user communities, and our product. Neal will do a great job of leading YouTube.

With everything we’re doing in Shorts, streaming, and subscriptions, as well as the promises of AI, the most exciting opportunities for YouTube are ahead, and Neal is the right person to lead us “Wojcicki explained.

Wojcicki was thanked in a tweet by Mohan: “I’m eager to carry out this fantastic and crucial mission. anticipating what comes ahead…”

Mohan previously worked for Microsoft and is a member of the boards of 23andMe and Stitch Fix. Mohan earned both an MBA and an electrical engineering degree from Stanford.
